El fuego y el orgullo irlandés a través de su danza

Se escucha un bodhrán furioso, una uilleann-pipe penetrante y, de pronto, una lluvia de pasos inundan el escenario. Pasos que son música, pasos que juegan con las simetrías y que, sumados, son una avalancha. Al tiempo que bailan, estos cuarenta y pico de artistas mantienen los brazos pegados al cuerpo y en sus rostros sostienen el orgullo irlandés. Riverdance: Embajadores de la cultura irlandesa

“Somos embajadores de la cultura irlandesa”, define Julian Erskine, productor multiterreno que diagramó la versión teatral de Riverdance, un show singular tanto por su dinámica como por su origen. Surgió en 1994 como desprendimiento de un concurso televisivo de baile y canto, en Dublín, que incluía un amplio muestrario de la cultura irlandesa y de sus tradiciones. Mientras los jurados deliberaban los puntajes de los concursantes, se realizaban coreografías. La más importante fue una titulada Riverdance y duraba alrededor de siete minutos. Fue tal el éxito que Riverdance se transformó en un espectáculo de dos horas.

Riverdance, show de música y danza irlandesa, en el Gran Rex

Riverdance representa la vida de un río. La primera canción, titulada “Canción de la Nube”, invita a la lluvia que cae, alimenta al río y llega hasta el mar. A partir de ese momento, comienza la coreografía que representa su movimiento, transmitiendo la energía del curso del agua y su ciclo renovador. El impactante espectáculo irlandés se presentará en el Gran Rex desde el miércoles 22 al miércoles 29 de agosto, con doble función los fines de semana.

Dance class with Riverdance at the Gaiety

Maeve Croke, the phenomenally talented Dance Captain led the class. The group loved learning what everyone thinks of as the signature dance of the show and Maeve was such a generous tutor in time and patients. Riverdance performs in South America for the first time

The first Riverdance tour of South America opened in Via Funchal, São Paulo, Brazil last night.
Lead dancers Chloey Turner and James Greenan lead the Riverdance cast in the first ever Riverdance performance in South America with a wonderful reaction from the Via Funchal audience.

End of the line – Final Shows North America

It’s bittersweet as I finish the last step in the last number of the last ever North American Riverdance show. Some 6,000 people are on their feet in the fantastic outdoor arena at WolfTrap, Vienna and boy has it been a long journey!

PREVIEW: Wolf Trap ready for a last ‘Dance’

This weekend, the massive North American operation of Riverdance — 60 dancers, singers, musicians and crew — will sing and dance for the last time on these shores. The Dublin-based production company is closing down its North American tour with five performances at Wolf Trap, one of its earliest and most consistent venues.

Electric Burma Live in Dublin

On June 18, AUNG SAN SUU KYI, Burmese opposition leader, will fly to Dublin where she will attend a concert in her honour. The tribute concert, Electric Burma, will commence at 5 pm on June 18th, at the Bord Gais Energy Theatre. Riverdance will join actors, musicians and dancers who will travel to Dublin from across the globe to celebrate this inspiring woman.

Take the Floor 2012

Take the Floor 2012, directed and produced by former Riverdance members Shane McAvinchey and Paula Goulding, is a 10-day event in which a new full scale Irish Dance production will be created, rehearsed and staged by a cast of over 50 Irish dancers from around the world. The show will be taking place on August 15th at the Helix in Dublin, with rehearsals taking place from August 6th at Dublin City University Campus in the 10 days leading up to the show. Currently applications are being accepted online from dancers aged 15yrs+
