One of the most exciting opportunities that the first Riverdance Trinity College Summer school presented to the young dancers was the potential to use the week long school as an extended audition for the show. Those who passed their audition were immediately launched into showbiz and had their debut as part of the Riverdance Troupe performing to a full house at the Gaiety Theatre.
Almost 300 dancers took part in the 2015 summer school. They learned the iconic Riverdance choreography from the show, taught by the Riverdance professional dancers. The elite of the school auditioned for their place in the Riverdance cast. The 6 days of the school allowed them to showcase not only their talents as a dancer and a performer but also their work ethic and personality. These are two traits that are extremely important to Riverdance.
Each Saturday morning all the summer school performed a showcase of extracts from Riverdance to an invited audience of their family and friends.
Prior to the showcase the names of the dancers who would dance for real with Riverdance were announced. Over the 3 weeks, in total twelve multi talented dancers were chosen. They were whisked from their showcase at The Lir / Trinity College to the rehearsals and rotations at the Gaiety Theatre. At 3.30pm each Saturday afternoon the curtains rose and the life long dreams were fulfilled.
Watch the raw emotion as the newly selected dancers get the opportunity to perform with their childhood idols as part of the Riverdance troupe at the Gaiety Theatre Dublin.
The next generation of Irish dancers selected from the incredibly successful first Riverdance summer school are now on tour with Riverdance in the USA, UK and Germany. The second Riverdance summer school takes place this July. Dancers can registered on http://academy.riverdance.com/register/
