Riverdance travels from Omaha, Nebraska to Topeka, Kansas

Kevin Horton, Dancer, Boyne Company

We traveled to Omaha last Monday from San Antonio on two flights. It wasn’t too bad, they were quick! When we arrived at the hotel, we were very happy to see that we were within walking distance of the theater and right in the heart of downtown Omaha. Don’t get me wrong, it was not the most happening city, but there was still plenty to do and to keep us busy for our five days there. We stayed in a boutique hotel, which was gorgeous and had the most comfortable beds! It’s funny, but when you live in hotels like we do, the simplest thing, such as a nice hotel bed, can make or break your visit to a city!

Aside from the vast array of restaurants and tiny shops of the downtown area, there wasn’t much to do aside from wandering the city to explore. One thing which was close to the hotel was the Henry Doorly Omaha Zoo. This zoo, located close to downtown, is one of the best in the Nation. I can honestly say it is one of the best zoo’s I have ever been too. There was an indoor Jungle, underground swamp, gorilla enclosure, indoor desert, and much more. A bunch of us enjoyed a great day at the Zoo, and we all felt like we were ten years old for the day! A good feeling every once and a while!

On Friday night, there was a traditional Irish band from Philadelphia playing at a local Irish Pub, so a group of us decided to check it out. They gave a great performance, and were actually staying at our hotel. We hung out with the group well into the evening and had a great night; one of those tour nights that sticks in your mind for a long time! But before we knew it, we were on the way to Topeka, Kansas.

Saturday morning, we had a four hour bus journey and then an evening show. After travel and a show Saturday and then two shows on Sunday, we did not have any time for anything else. However, the local presenter threw us an opening night party with food and drink, which was well appreciated after a long day of travel and a show.

Next week we are in College Station and Orange, Texas.
