‘Local boy’ dances Riverdance lead in Melbourne

It’s a dream come true” for Liam Ayres as he finally performs with Riverdance in his home town of Melbourne. Liam originally from Box Hill Melbourne and now living in Hawthorn Melbourne will perform Riverdance lead during the show’s run at Regent Theatre, Melbourne from March 30 to April 10, 2011.

“Irish Dancing is in my family” says Liam ” My father was from a big Irish family – he is one of 11 children.” “The Irish Dance community is small in Victoria, everyone knows each other”

Liam began Irish Dancing at the age of 5 and he went on to win 7 Victorian and 2 Australian Irish Dancing titles . He joined Riverdance in 2004 and has performed across Europe, Scandinavia, Russia and the UK as well as principle dancer in Dublin, Japan, Taiwan and North America

When Liam is not touring with Riverdance he teaches Irish Dance at the Christine Ayres School in Essendon. Christine is Liam’s aunt. He qualified as an Irish dance teacher last year.
