July 21, 2015
It’s been a busy week here in the Gaiety Theatre and we’ve enjoyed every minute.
We kicked off the week on Monday by being invited to the last preview show of ‘Once’ the musical in the beautiful Olympia Theatre. ‘Once’ is a musical stage adaptation based on the film of the same name. Just like the film, Music and lyrics were by Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová, including the famous and Academy Award-winning “Falling Slowly. The performance was led by Tom Parsons and Megan Riordan who blew us away with their incredible talent.
It was week 1 of the Riverdance International Summer School in conjunction with Trinity College Dublin. We welcomed over 100 dancers from 23 countries worldwide. It was a super busy week for instructors Lauren, Stephen, Callum, Brendan, Siobhan, James, Sarah, John & Emma who were teaching the summer school participants during the day and performing in the Gaiety at night! On Wednesday we welcomed all the dancers as they sat in on Rotations, got to attend a special Meet & Greet with the cast on stage and then they all stayed to watch the show.
As the weekend came around four of the lucky dancers were given the opportunity to perform alongside the Foyle Co. in the Gaiety. Sarah Oldham, Ciara Callanan-Ryan, Brandon Asasawa & Greg Molony performed Reel around the sun, Riverdance, The American Wake & Heartland all of which they learned in just one week at the Summer School. They all done an amazing job – well one guys!
The summer school continues this week with over 100 more excited dancers ready to work hard and have fun. And the Foyle Co. look forward to welcoming them into the Gaiety.
Until next week.. Check us out on Facebook and Twitter @Riverdance for more up to date info.
