Last week the Liffey Company performed 8 fantastic shows in the Ipswich Regent Theatre. We started the week with some very good news, dancer John Lonergan had been successful in his TCRG exam (the qualification to become a registered Irish Dance Teacher). John had studied tirelessly on the first leg of the European tour from January to June and took the exam a few days after he had returned home. He had quite a long wait on his results but it was well worth it.
On Thursday before the show a few of the dancers were seen sneaking around the hotel (Darren, Christina and Louise). On tour keeping things under-wraps is never easy as word travels fast via our ‘whatsapp’ group. They were planning to throw a party for Dancer Mitchell Hodges who had won the Mens 18-19 World Championships in London earlier this year. Of course it wasn’t long until everyone was in on it (apart from Mitch of course). The room was decorated with globes and banners and everyone in the company came in fancy dress, we even staged a parade of champions and Mitchell performed his winning set dance.
On Friday, dancer Ceili Moore turned 20. Ceili was a long way from her family and friends in Sydney on her birthday but the girls decorated the dressing room with banners and balloons and made her feel right at home. HAPPY BIRTHDAY CEILI!
Principal Dancer Stephen Brennan who is also from Ipswich had a very important show on Saturday night as all his family and friends came to watch him perform. The raucous applause from start to finish had the whole company buzzing throughout the show.
This week we are in The BIC Theatre, Bournemouth. Everyone is excited and have high hopes of getting to the beach (English weather permitting) AND if’s that not enough we’ve been invited to a very special lunch with the Mayor of Bournemouth.
Check out the blog this weekend when we will be naming out first ‘Dancer of the week’.
