Copenhagen!

This week we spent a few days in Copenhagen. I had never been to Denmark before and it didn’t disappoint.  If you have never been to Denmark before I would highly recommend going there. We all fell in love with the place. The weather was great, the people were so friendly and helpful, just the atmosphere in the city so laid back and stress free. 

The best way to get around the city was by renting bikes which could easily be got at reception. It was bit daunting at first as they have a proper system in place with traffic lights and lanes but once you get the hang of it it is ok. There was just so much to do and see that it was hard to fit it all in. On one of the days I went on a canal cruise with Lauren and Kincaid and got to see some of the most beautiful sights. We were lucky enough to pass the Queens ship and just seeing the people out chilling by the canal, jumping into the water and people playing music would just put you in a good spirits. 

One of the most famous and the smallest attractions is the statue of the little mermaid. Born of a fairy tale by Danish author Hans Christian Andersen, the statue incarnation of the little mermaid has watched over Copenhagen’s harbour since 1913. ( I learn’t this from our lovely tour guide)The mermaid has been photographed, kissed, hugged and admired by millions of people from all over the world and has become a symbol of Denmark.Some of our girls got a selfie with her. We love a good selfie here in Riverdance we do! 

We also rode to quite a different side of Copenhagen. This was called Freetown Christiania.  It is a self proclaimed autonomous neighbourhood and can be described as hippie almost. People here have their own laws in which they live by and today Christiania is still in full swing with almost 900 residents, some of them third generation, and it’s  perhaps the largest and longest lasting commune in history. To enter it you pass under a sign that reads “you are now leaving the European Union” The people have their own flag and use their own currency. Sadly you are not allowed to take pictures inside it as the people go crazy if you even try to take one, so I have nothing to show you fro my time there. 

Another beautiful place was Tivioli Gardena. Tivoli is the second most popular seasonal park in the world, the most visited theme park in Scandinavia and the forth most visited in Europe, only behind Disneyland Paris, Europa- Park Rust and the Efteling. It was so nice and with the weather being so nice added to the occasion even more. 

The rest of our time off between shows we spent strolling down the streets. The people singing and playing music on the streets were amazing. We soaked up some sun in the park and some of the lads and crew guys rented a boat for a day.  

Copenhagen is a city I and many of the cast will be back to in the future.
