Riverdance World Record Step

The Movements:

1. THE TREBLE:
• It consists of 3 movements and makes 3 sounds. Step on your left foot for the first movement and sound.
• Then tip your right foot out in front of you (2nd movement and sound) and tip it back (3rd movement and sound).
• To repeat this movement hop onto your Right foot (1st movement and sound) followed by tipping your left foot out in front (2nd movement and sound) and then tipping it back (3rd movement and sound).

2. THE CUT:
• The cut or “a cut” is a simple movement and in Riverdance it usually follows a treble and sometimes follows a “toe.”
• When cutting with your Right leg you simply bring your Right heel towards your left hip and while doing a left leg cut you bring your left heel towards your Right hip.

3. THE DRUM:
• This movement is a little more complicated and consists of 4 sounds.
• Your start by placing the ball of your left foot down behind your Right foot (1st movement and sound) with the left heel raised off the floor.
• You then pick up your right foot (2nd movement).
• Place the ball of your right foot back on the floor in front of your already placed left foot(3rd movement 2nd sound), then push the right heel onto the floor(4th movement 3rd sound), followed by pushing your left heel into the ground. ( 5th movement 4th sound).
• This movement is also done on the left foot.

4. HEELS:
• This movement consists of 3 basic movements and 3 sounds.
• Pick up the left foot and place it behind the right foot while staying on the ball of the left foot (1st movement and sound).
• With the right foot placed in front of the left foot you tip the right ball of the foot or tip of the shoe off the ground (2nd movement and sound) and your right heel will remain raised off the floor.
• Now raise the right tip or ball of the foot off the floor and place the right heel onto the floor ( 3rd movement and 3rd sound)

5. THE BOX:
• Most complicated movement of the dance.
• There are 11 movements’ and sounds associated with this step.
• The first 3 movements and sounds are the same as the Heel movement.
• With the right heel on the floor in front of the left foot you will pick up and place down the left foot, which is behind the right foot (4th movement and sound).
• Then tap the ball of the right foot on the ground in front of the left foot (5th movement and sound) then step the right foot back beside the left foot while staying on the ball of the foot (6th movement and sound).
• Now both the right and left feet are side by side and both heels are off the ground.
• The 7th movement and sound is done by simply stepping the left foot in place and keeping the heel of the ground.
• Now click both heels together (8th movement and sound).
• Now drop your right heel to the ground (9th movement and sound) followed by your left heel (10th movement and sound).
• Now both feet are place on the floor with both heels next to each other and feet turned out.
• The final movement is done by placing the right foot behind the left foot and ending with the left foot in front of the right in 5th position. (11th movement and sound)

The Steps:

1. THE TROUPE STEP:
• Start by stamping your right foot on the ground.
• Now hop onto your right foot and treble with your left foot, follow that by hopping onto your left foot and doing a treble with your right foot and then back onto your right foot and terrible with your left foot.
• It goes- Stamp, left treble, right treble, left treble.
• From there you will do a cut with your left leg which means after you treble with your left foot you will bring your left heel towards your right hip. When your left leg is on its way back down from the right hip towards the floor you will finish the movement by once again doing a treble with your left foot.
• It goes- Stamp (RF), treble (LF), treble(RF), treble(LF), cut (LF), treble(LF)
• This movement is repeated all over again with the exception of the first stamp so now we start with the right foot doing the treble so that it is the opposite to what we just completed.
• It goes- Treble (RF), Treble (LF), Treble (RF), Cut (RF), Treble (RF)
• Once again do the same movement now repeated by starting back with the left foot.
• It goes- Treble (LF), Treble (RF), Treble (LF), Cut (LF) Treble (LF)
• That movement is now followed by completing 3 “Drums” in a row. We complete the 1st drum on the right foot, the 2nd drum on the left foot and the 3rd drum on the right foot. Once we finish the 3rd and final drum we place our right foot behind our left foot.
• That completes the 1st 8 bars of music.
Next 8 Bars
• You complete the next 8 bars by doing all of the same steps above but this time we will start by doing the Treble on the Right foot.
• It goes as follows- Treble (RF), Treble (LF), Treble (RF), Cut (RF), Treble (RF)
• Followed by- Treble (LF), Treble (RF), Treble (LF), Cut (LF) Treble (LF)
• Followed by- Treble (RF), Treble (LF), Treble (RF), Cut (RF), Treble (RF)
• Followed by – drum (LF) drum (RF) drum (LF) and then place left foot behind the right foot.

2. THE RUN AROUND STEP
Starting with the left foot you will complete 16- 1,2,3’s in a row to full fill 16 bars of music

3. The RIVERDANCE STEP
• Start by stamping your right foot on the ground.
• Now hop onto your right foot and treble with your left foot. Like in the previous step, after you treble with your left foot you do a “cut” by bringing your left foot towards your right hip. While you are bringing your left foot down from the cut movement you will once again treble with your left foot.
• Once that treble is completed you will bring your left foot up and backwards toward your left bum cheek. Then treble with your left foot again and do cut with your left leg again followed by another treble left foot. That series of movements completes the left foot portion of the step.
• For the right foot portion so of the step you simply do the exact same on the right as you previous did on the left. Going from where we finished on the left foot- you complete the treble on your left foot and switch to your right foot. You treble on your right foot, follow that with a “cut” (right heel to left hip). After the cut treble with your right foot again and then bring your right heel up to your right bum cheek. Then, as you did on the left foot, treble on the right foot again, follow that with a cut to the left hip, followed by another treble on your right foot.
• Now switch feet by hopping on the right foot so that you can treble with your left foot. Once you treble with the left foot you will pick up your right heel towards your backside and hit your right toe to the ground behind your left foot ( you are still on the ball of your left foot) once you place the right toe to the ground you now drop your left heel to the ground to complete that movement.
• Now place your weight onto the ball of your right foot to again do a treble with your left foot. Once you treble with your left foot you will bring your left foot up towards your backside (while hopping on your right foot and land on the ball of your foot). Then hit your left toe off the ground followed by your right heel.
• You finish the entire “step” by completing the “box Step”.
• We will now do the same starting on with a treble on your right foot so it would go-
• RF treble, right cut, right treble, right to back side, right treble, right cut, right treble.
• Followed by left treble, left cut, left treble, left towards backside, left treble, left cut, left treble. Then Right treble, left heel to backside, left toe to floor, right heel to ground. Right treble, right heel to backside, right toe to ground, drop left heel to ground.
• Now to complete the step: Once you drop your left heel to the ground you will hop on your left foot while kicking your right foot out in front of you. As your two feet pass each other in the air you will click your right heel off your left heel. Once you land your left foot on the ground after the hop you will then step on your right foot, which is now in front of your left foot, followed by a step on your left foot (keeping it behind your right foot). You then complete the movement by doing a treble hop back with the right foot.

• The next 4 bars of dancing will be repeated to make up 8 bars of music. After finishing with the left foot in front from the previous movement you will step onto the left foot to bring the right foot in front. You will treble with the right foot then treble hop back with your left foot. Once you place your left foot on the ground behind your right foot you will twist your left foot. As you twist your left foot you will pick up your right foot and place it behind your left foot. Now repeat that movement again like so- Right treble, left treble hop back twist, right treble, left treble hop back twist. From there you will a series of 7 “heels” followed by a stamp on your right foot, then hit your left toe on the ground behind your right foot. As your toe hits the floor you will do a cut with your right foot. As you come out of the right cut you will repeat the entire movement all over again. Like so- right treble, left treble hop back twist, right treble, left treble hop back twist, after you do the7 heels on your right foot you will simply finish the step by stamping the right foot on the floor followed by stamping the left foot beside the right foot as you see in the video.
• Now to you will do four 123’s alternating feet after you start the first one with the right foot.
• You will finish that movement with your left foot in front. From here you will bring your right foot in front and stamp it to the floor, then pick up your left foot and place it back down (ball of the foot) behind the right foot making one sound, now take one step on the right foot which is still in front. That movement is a total of 3 steps and 3 sounds. Like so- Right stamp (1st movement 1st sound) left foot up and back in place with ball of foot (2nd movement 2nd sound) pick up and place right foot in front ( 3rd movement 3rd sound).
• Now do the same steps with the using the left foot like so- Left stamp in front of right foot, followed by picking up right foot and placing it down onto the ball of the right foot behind the left foot, followed by picking up and taking a step placing the left foot in front.
• Now bring the right foot to the front again and do one stamp with the right foot. As you do that stamp everyone will turn in towards the center of the stage. Pick up and place down the left foot again behind the right foot. Now treble with your right foot in front of your left foot, follow that Right treble by picking up the left foot (still behind the right foot) and place down a toe, then as you place your left toe to the ground you will bring up your right leg to perform a “cut” ( right heel to left hip) and finish that movement by stamping down your right foot in front of your left foot to finish the dance. As you stamp down the right foot you will turn your head to the front. At this moment your head will be facing the front of the stage while your body faces the center of the stage.
